In the Ethiopian culture, coffee ceremonies are a traditional ritual. Prepared by the woman, friends and family gather during three separate courses (morning, afternoon and evening) and share problems and ideas.
The practice of gathering, listening and sharing emerged today as we met with deaf leaders from the DDIA (deaf development information association). They shared personal testimony, challenges of being deaf, and the need for advocacy and awareness. In return we listened and asked questions that helped DDIA members determine overarching challenges and identify turning points in their own experiences.
