Health Camp at Leeds Met by Lauren Simonsen
During the summer school program I was part of the health sciences cohort and was sent off early to Leeds Met City Campus for breakfast followed by two microbiology lab sessions. The view of the city from the science laboratory room was stunning and it was truly a neat experience to be surrounded by so many driven and intelligent young people. I bonded with my fellow health science student ambassadors by asking each other questions and telling silly stories. We measured our pain thresholds and played around with lie detector test in our afternoon workshops. Very interesting stuff! Later that night we got to experience The Red Hot International Buffet that all of the students had been raving about. The ambiance of the restaurant consisted of an airplane that you have to walk through in order to get into the seating area, which created the effect that you were actually flying to other countries to try their food. The buffet had countless sections of favorite foods from different countries or places from around the world. We found it funny that they were serving "American brownies" and were quite pleased with the way they turned out! After dinner, we attended the movie Transformers at Everyman Cinema. It was the coolest movie theater I've ever been too with large plush arm chairs and pillows, accompanied with foot rests and popcorn. It was great to experience what it would be like to be a British teenager and I think that through all of today's activities, I understand their way of life a little better.
