Aspiring librarian Craig Marasco recently witnessed local and national history.
Employed in the Nazareth Library since the summer of 2010, Craig has been part of the student staff in Circulation, Reference, Serials, Interlibrary Loan and Technical Services. He is also a library clerk at the Helen McGraw Branch of the Irondequoit Public Library. Craig therefore had the fascinating opportunity to observe at close hand the planning process and public debate involved in the proposed construction of the new Irondequoit Library.
What did Craig learn from the experience? "The results of the vote show that the community still needs the services of the library, and I can be a part of that by choosing a career in library sciences." Craig is undecided about whether he will pursue an academic or public library career, but he does very much enjoy working with people in a library setting - "oh, yeah!"
Craig also had a truly unique experience of community during a long-anticipated trip to Boston. Craig attended the historic Red Sox home game where Neil Diamond performed "Sweet Caroline". "It was an amazing experience. Even the day after the arrest, in the stadium people were getting back to normal and all the people were singing the songs - not just the organ - like a new tradition was born."
Craig Marasco is graduating this Sunday, May 12th, with a BA in Adolescent Education and Italian (Honors Program). In the fall, he will be attending the State University of New York at Buffalo. Congratulations to Craig!
