Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and more recently, Barack Obama, have influenced generations of Americans by their deeds and their words. Martin Luther King pronounced the famous discourse, "I have a Dream" on August 28, 1963 in front of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington. This is considered to be one of the world's most famous speeches. Abraham Lincoln declared, "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth" in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1873. Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America, made a great sensation with the allocution, "A More Perfect Union" upon his inauguration as the official Democratic candidate.
Through an analytical and typographical study, the Graphic Design students at Lisaa Rennes worked on creating this poster exhibit, concentration on key words in these three historic speeches. Looking beyond the simple text, the students had to create the visuals (illustrations, photographs...), as well as the type. They also had to take into account the historic and dynamic aspects of these texts.
Stephen Bertalli, director of Lisaa, graduated from Nazareth College in 1985. He has been an active member of the Rochester-Rennes Sister Cities Committee since 1987.

Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King ou encore Barack Obama marquent plusieurs générations d’américains par leurs actes mais aussi par leurs paroles. Martin Luther Kingprononça le célèbre discours, «I Have a Dream » (Je fais un rêve) le 28 août 1963 devant le Lincoln Memorial a Washington durant la Marche pour l’Emploi et la Liberté. Ce discours est resté l'un des plus connus dans le monde. Abraham Lincoln déclara, «à nous de décider que le gouvernement du peuple, par le peuple, et pour le peuple ne disparaîtra jamais de la face du monde. » dans le Gettysburg Address, le 19 novembre 1873. Et plus récemment Barack Obama, 44˚ président des État-Unis d'Amériques fit sensation avec son allocution, «A more Perfect Union » lors de son investitue en tant que candidat official du Parti Démocrate.
Autour d’un travail typographique devant apporter un dimension réflexive par le biais d’un texte enrichi, les étudiants de Lisaa Rennes en Conception Design Graphique ont travaillé sur ses trios discours s’appuyant sur des mots clés historiques. Les élèves, en allant au delà du simple texte, ont dû jouer avec la mise en forme : choix de polices, corps de la typographic, italiques… tout en prenant compte l’aspect historique et la dynamique de ces discours.
Stephen Bertalli, directeur de Lisaa, a été diplômé de Nazareth College en 1985. Il est membre actif du Comité de Jumelage Rennes-Rochester depuis 1987.
