Maggie Gebo is spending the fall of her senior year in Germany working on her senior comprehensive project researching cabaret performance in Berlin as she completes her BA in Theatre Arts.
My internship is incredible. Today I personally, not with a supervisor, provided costumes for Universal Records. The marketing agent of a very well-known German hip-hop artist called Sido came in needing uniforms, and we had several directors and private clients in today, so I got the Universal Studios agent. I was so nervous...I mean, way to give the most important client to the intern who still gets lost in the men's suits section!!! But I got him what he wanted and he was really cool and put up with my bad German, and he even gave me a copy of Sido's new CD that like...literally came out 4 days ago. (Obviously the artist is fairly unheard of in the U.S. but he's currently on the front page of YouTube and is quite the name over here.) The biggest challenge has actually been, of all things...measuring. A lot of these clothes are from the GDR period, so they are in Russian measurement. So I grab a dress and I'm like "what is m88?" We have a conversion chart full of basic garment measurements for conversion, (shoulder to wrist, waist, etc.) but it's all in German!!
Now to make the theatre department really jealous....tomorrow I will take a tour of the Berliner Ensemble, before attending a performance of ThreePenny Opera. I will now have seen two shows at the BE!!
